Think Tank- A Closer Look

The influenza pandemic claimed more than 550,000 deaths in the USA alone between 1918 and 1919. One must appreciate that this influenza virus strain appeared at a time in history when no medical authority on earth could discern what an influenza virus even was. The term has still not been in use.Do you want to learn more? Visit Think Tank.

It would take almost another 20 years to associate the word virus to influenza. At the moment, medical professionals around the world were at a loss to find a way of handling influenza, and the therapies they had often done more harm than good. Physicians tried whatever strategy they had at the moment, at a loss as to what path to try to avoid the sickness. We instigated enemas and blood-letting, which doing little other but further transmit the infection.

Finally, but much too late, states started enforcing laws on separation. People were asked to stop meeting in large crowds and events were performed more outside, the illness became prevalent in the assumption when one was enclosed in a crowd. Outside were activities such as court cases, dining, and gatherings.

This was all fresh for 2018 planet. We became engaged in a fight to end all wars, an incident that left many massively devastated nations unable to work. It couldn’t have occurred at any bad time in history. Simply put, medical science was simply not equipped to deal with that size of influenza outbreak. Across the globe, physicians and nurses dealt around a illness they did not understand or identify. The First World War activities were starting to fade relative to the destruction caused by the pandemic.

This quickly became apparent that only non-pharmaceutical treatments, or NPI’s, would be the best option, since there were not yet sufficient medications available to treat this disorder. Drugs such as antibiotics and vaccines were non-existent. Medical professionals soon realized that there was no solution to avoid the spread of the virus and concentrated on prevention. Thus NPI measures such as social distancing, isolation, and quarantining became the norm to stop the spread.

Being open and honest was one of the biggest lessons that should have been learned from this period. It took so long for public officials to respond to the influenza pandemic of 1918–18, sometimes playing it down and refusing to move faster than they did. That this case seems to be a common trend.

An incident like this took place during 1997 when a virus later called the Bird Flu appeared in domesticated poultry in a region of Hong Kong. It spread to humans by touch, and then became contaminated. Many of such diseases in humans have proven deadly. This virus type combined with other mutant forms is expanding through many areas of Asia, destroying many more men. Both of these infections have the ability to propagate and transform into a pandemic however diligent caution eventually managed to suppress the infection.

The World Health Organization once again announced a Level 5 pandemic to be inevitable during April of 2009. Given that there are only 6 levels implemented by the World Health Organization, both governments and medical professionals worldwide took the level 5 phase very seriously. Measures have been put in place to set up treatment centres, medications have been spread around the globe and stringent policies and procedures have been put in place to tackle the epidemic.

The virus tentacled its way across the world, infecting more than 200 countries, even with this rapid and revolutionary intervention. The WHO eventually reclassified the alert, effectively observing it as a pandemic, from phase 5 to phase 6. Interestingly, the planet was alerted to a new virus ten years later, in 2019. The COVID-19, or Coronavirus, better known as the.

The COVID-19 virus could have been prevented, or managed to prevent a pandemic. Notwithstanding the lack of transparency and the failure of governments and medical professionals to act responsibly, the virus has spread and taken control all over the world. It has claimed thousands of lives so far, and is still spreading untethered. No vaccine is effective yet and it would take several months if one were to be developed to completely begin implementation.
