A common flaw that can afflict many air conditioners is when they appear to function well, then they’re just no longer cooling us. If you are in this situation, then the good news is that it will most likely need only clean up. Cleaning the air conditioner yourself is pretty straightforward but care must be taken as with any electrical item. Make sure the power is switched off before you begin any maintenance on your air conditioner! The panels that are shut off are normally located on the air conditioner, but if you have trouble finding, just shut down the power to your home. Now you are able to see what the air-conditioner issue is. First, take the condenser grill cover off. Then clean the fins gently, using either a brush or a cloth. The fins can easily be damaged so care must be taken. It’s time to sweep some remaining particles once you’ve finished cleaning them. Now you have to screw the cover off and gently take it off the grill. Now we’re done with the cleaning, we’ve got to hose the fins; however with a waterproof cover you’ll need to protect the motor. You can turn the air conditioner on when you’ve reassembled the unit, and see if your maintenance has helped. When you turn it on, allow it to run for a few minutes and then put your hands on the pipes running to the condenser, one pipe should feel hotter than the other. If the air conditioner is still not functioning so there is a fair risk that the refrigerant has to be recharged and that a mechanic may need to be called in.
